Corruption in Cricket? How about in Politics?

with one comment

It is good to see police cracking a whip on corruption in cricket (once again) and all the related inquiries and collecting proofs in no time. This had to happen and in my opinion IPL is more of a reality show.

Amul Cartoon on IPL fixing

Now, how about action on corruption in politics? Who dares dies. No investigations, no action.

I remember an Atheistic subhashita from Bachodi:

अश्वं नैव गजं नैव व्याघ्रं नैव च नैव च |
अजापुत्रं बलिं दद्याद्देवो दुर्बलघातक: ||

Not a horse, not an elephant, not a tiger is ever offered as a sacrifice at an altar. It is a baby goat which is offered as a sacrifice. (Alas!) God is betrayer of weak.

The EC has told that the next general elections would be held in April-May this year. So, I take this oppurtunity to remind you all guys to wake up, register and vote this time. I know you would have already thought of some reason to escape. No registration, No voter ID, No good politician … stop this. India is changing, improving. Come out of hibernation.

You all might have seen this ‘Jagore‘ ad on TV. It is a really good website helping you to register online and answering all you basic faqs on elections. If you have read this article, then you must visit the Jagore webiste, spend some time(No, your boss won’t scold you!!). If possible spread this message, create awareness among your friends and collegues. Send bulk emails. No, this is not considered spam!!

I have already told this to students who are now in my alma-mater, asking them to run a campus voter registration drive.

If you still haven’t clicked for the website, then you are really sleeping. Click Click Click !!!

Can we set right the Indian ‘system’?

with one comment

India is facing so many problems: Corruption, Terrorism, Rowdy-ism, Politician’s mamagiri, Black money… You name it, we have it. Politicians are making a mockery of democracy with the power of police and courts.

I have been watching TV shows these days by many news channels who ask people of solutions to the existing problems. Some say change politicians, some say Police should be stricter, some say privatize all the govt offices, and some suggest that all citizens should have one year military training. These solutions are fine, but let me tell you they wont work. Politicians never change unless they have some fear. Police won’t work effectively unless they come out of fear (that they get transferred or suspended). Govt. officers won’t work as they don’t have fear.

I was surprised to see this news a few years ago. Prime minister of England, Tony Blair’s son was arrested for being drunk and driving a car. The police officer directly called up the Prime Minister of UK, asked him to come to police station and gave him a half-an-hour lecture on the incident. All this happened when Tony Blair was still the Prime Minister! Can this happen with a local MLA in India?

These are all different problems, but in my opinion they could all be set right with a single solution. Make the Police and Courts federal. What that means is that the police and the judicial departments should not be governed by politicians, but should work independently and autonomously. No politician should have the power to suspend/transfer/influence a police/judge. This will slowly but effectively set right the ‘system’. Think over it.

Can we set right the Indian ‘system’?

Heartfelt condolences …

with one comment

My heartfelt condolences to all the people who have been affected directly or indirectly by the horrific attack in Mumbai-26/11.

The incidents of terrorists taking sea route, taking small dinghies with large amount of ammunition, the plans so well prepared in advance, entering the Taj from behind reminds me of the war of Troy.

There is no doubt that we as a nation should be united. We can. But there are some filthy elements in this society. I would request Mr. Raj Tackhery to feel for Mumbai now. How would it be when someone says, “Use your marathi manoos to get the terrorists out. Why the Indian Army?”. The comments from the MIM (Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) party were also hurting. Although the party atlast condemned the attacks (for name sake) it suggested that ATS chief’s death might be suspicious. Man! What a bad timing! There is no doubt that we need to give a strong response to these terrorists. Then we have a series of questions here. The first one is: From where to start? Can our politicians think above the vote banks? Can our policemen ever catch a real terrorist? In fact the list is endless.

The worrying part is as these bloody things are becoming more frequent in India, people are tending to become more used to them. As a matter of example the people are still making queues at the Gokul chat in Hyderabad (which was blasted off a few months ago). The Lumbini park (another target) is still full during the weekends. People have short memory. One good Indian Cricket season and they can forget everything.

There are already these ‘Good Indians’ speaking out of forgiving the terrorists. Forgiving them or not is left to God, and our duty is to make sure these people get the appointment with God.

But as we all know these things wont change in neither a day nor even a month. Our’s is not a communist country like China to take drastic measures over night. My dear friends, the heart of any democracy is the power of voting. Use it.

Heartfelt condolences …
